What is Self-Awareness

One of my friends asked me last month what is self-awareness. In this post, we will discuss on self-awareness. In philosophical terms, self-awareness is the experience of a person’s personality or personality.

Self-awareness is a way for a person to consciously know and understand his character, feelings, motives, and desires. She needs the ability to express her feelings. At the same time, it means being able to recognize how other people perceive you.

Most of our thoughts and actions are performed on autopilot. It’s not a bad thing. The problem arises when we are in autopilot for so long that we forget that we are on autopilot.

When we are unaware of our habits, routines, emotions and reactions, they control us, when we do not control them. But a self-conscious person can control.

There are two broad categories of self-awareness:

Inner Self-awareness

It reflects the way we view our values, aspirations, aspirations in harmony with our environment. It also represents our reactions which include thoughts, feelings, behaviors, strengths and weaknesses, and their effects on others.

External

This is how others see us. For this, we need to gather insights from the world around us.

Self-awareness is one of the most important psychological traits we can develop in life. Its benefits extend to everything. It can help us manage our emotions in conflict or our weaknesses at work or our ability to achieve something.

It is noteworthy that those who think they are the most self-conscious often have the most room for improvement.

Tips

Try to get out of the comfort zone

Coming out of your comfort zone, you are given the opportunity to learn how you work, think and feel in unfamiliar situations. You are on autopilot; You do things with the expected thoughts and feelings. It shrinks part of your vision of who you are.

When you choose to do things in unfamiliar situations, be aware of what you do and say, as well as how others perceive you. Sometimes, an external approach is needed to overcome the negative thoughts or to strengthen the positive thoughts.

Listen to the opinions and beliefs of others

It raises your awareness of your thoughts, as well as the prejudices and behaviors that result from those thoughts. This does not mean that your opinions and beliefs are wrong.

However, you can identify the possibility that your thoughts and beliefs may be changed if necessary.

Identify the trigger of your negative emotions

When you identify what triggers your negative emotions, you can be more selective about the people, places, and situations that could trigger them. It helps you become more aware of your environment and how you react to things you can’t control.

Identify your strengths and weaknesses

Self-awareness can be enhanced by acknowledging your strengths and weaknesses. So we can work on our weaknesses and ask for help to make the necessary improvements.

Internal observation

Everyday self-reflection is a great way to increase self-awareness, because it allows us to understand ourselves more deeply. Self-reflection will open up to thoughts and feelings that might otherwise be ignored.

Self-talk

It can improve self-awareness, as it clarifies our thoughts and feelings. Self-conversation, when repeated, teaches us to stop a line of thought and follow it with more positive thinking.

Practice Saying No

The ability to tell oneself not to undo short-term satisfaction for long-term gain is an important life skill. And his practice can improve self-awareness.

The consequences of being able to say no are far-reaching. The famous marshmallow experiment explains this well.

Meditate on mindfulness

Sitting in a comfortable position in a quiet place and focusing on your thoughts is a simple exercise. Let them pass without paying too much attention.

This is mindfulness meditation. When you practice observation and observation without thinking too much about our thoughts, you begin to realize a powerful idea: You are not your thoughts. Instead, you can control them and change them from negative to positive.

Ask for feedback from people you trust

One of the best ways to build self-awareness is to look at other people’s perspectives and how you influence others. The easiest way is to ask for honest feedback from trusted people who will not criticize you unnecessarily.

But don’t just rely on one person’s feedback, gather a variety of insights and evaluate what you want to do with this information.
